Volkswagen, as part of its new strategy, has managed to introduce several new models, including the Golf GTI and Tayron R-Line, in the Indian market. The brand is also working on more products for our market. Some of them are completely new, while others are updated versions of existing products. This is proof that Volkswagen is taking the Indian market seriously and is being aggressive with its launches. Here we have four new Volkswagens that are expected to be launched in the market soon.
Taigun Facelift
The first product in this lineup is the Taigun facelift. The SUV has been spotted testing on multiple occasions, and now that Skoda has officially launched the Kushaq, we can expect the Taigun launch as well. The launch of the Taigun facelift is likely to happen next month.
It will come with a revised front grille, headlamps, bumper, alloy wheels, tail lamps, and rear bumper. It is also expected to offer features like a panoramic sunroof, rear seat massager, and many more functions.
It will be offered with a 1.0 TSI engine with a 6-speed manual and a new 8-speed automatic transmission, along with a 1.5-litre TSI engine paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
Virtus Facelift
After the Taigun, Volkswagen will shift its focus to the Virtus, which is one of the best-selling sedans in this segment. The Virtus facelift has also been spotted testing, and we expect it to launch after the Skoda Slavia facelift, which is also currently undergoing tests.
The exterior changes in the Virtus facelift are expected to include a revised front grille, headlamps, bumper, alloy wheels, and a new theme for the cabin, along with the existing features. The sedan will be powered by the same set of engines as the current model. The 8-speed automatic transmission will be the major update for the 1.0 TSI variant.
Golf GTI
Volkswagen launched the hot hatch Golf GTI in the market last year. They initially brought 250 units to India, and all of them were sold out almost immediately. Looking at the response this expensive hatchback received, Volkswagen is now planning to bring in a second batch.
The next batch of Golf GTIs is expected to arrive in India soon, and just like the first batch, it will also be a CBU. It might get a few features that were not available in the first batch. It is definitely going to be a bit more expensive too.
It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that generates 265 bhp and is paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
Lower-Spec Tayron
The Tayron R-Line is currently the flagship SUV from Volkswagen in India. While the current version is the top-spec R-Line variant focused on performance, Volkswagen also has plans to introduce a lower-spec, non-R-Line version of the Tayron in India.
While the current R-Line variant is priced at Rs 47 lakh, ex-showroom, the lower-spec variant will be priced below it. It will be powered by the same engine as the R-Line but will generate less power and torque. It will also skip a few features that the R-Line variant offers.
